MediaTek lifts Q4 outlook and confirms a second cloud ASIC customer

MediaTek delivered a stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter outlook at its investor meeting and used the session to address one of the market’s main questions: the status of its custom ASIC program. The company said fourth-quarter revenue is projected to reach NT$210.1 billion to NT$221.8 billion, up 25% to 32% from the prior quarter, supported by AI PCs, broader shipments across smart devices, and flagship chip deliveries. It also said full-year U.S. dollar revenue will exceed its earlier target of high-single-digit growth. On the ASIC front, CEO Rick Tsai said development remains on schedule despite market concerns about delays to a second-generation product. He said some dies have already completed tape-out, while larger and more complex dies are taking several more weeks but remain within the original timetable. MediaTek also said it has formally secured a second, new cloud ASIC customer. The project is already underway and is expected to begin contributing revenue in 2028. The company kept its long-term target for ASIC revenue in 2027 at US$16 billion and said the business should continue expanding strongly in 2028.
